- Poor print quality
- If print quality has declined, please read through the troubleshooting section of your printer user's manual as it has important instructions on how to handle and clean the various components and locations of these items.
- These are a few important things to check in a laser printer which can affect print quality.
- Print density adjustment may cause print to be too light or dark. You will get a dirty background if adjusted too low or too high.
- Printer components may be dirty with spilled toner inside printer.
- Transfer charger wire may be broken or dirty and need cleaning.
- Glass lens on print head may be dirty and require cleaning.
- Cleaning pad may need replacing.
- Toner may be low.
- Imaging cartridge or drum may need replacing.
- If, after cleaning or replacing the above items, print quality has not improved, the printer should be inspected or serviced by an authorized service center. Call Redundant Cartridge for all your service needs.
- Paper Feeding
- If there was a paper jam that was improperly removed from the printer, then the printer may need service.
- Try the following:
- When placing the paper in the paper tray, make sure that you do not pat the paper down with your hand. This can cause some pieces of paper in the stack to become crooked, thus causing several pieces of paper to feed at once.
- Make sure the paper that you are using is within the specifications of the printer. The printer's manuals will contain this type of information. Try another paper brand.
- Try microwaving ten to fifteen sheets of paper at a low temperature for 20 seconds. Be sure to keep your paper in a cool, not humid or moist area to avoid moisture in paper.
- If paper feeds crooked, make sure the paper guides in the paper tray are pushed against the sides of the paper stack. Also try a good quality paper.
- Do not fan the paper prior to placing it in the paper tray.
- If the above suggestions do not help, the printer may need service.
- HP accordion like folds in paper
- HP 4 and 5 Laser Printers sometimes turn the bottom of your print into an "accordion" like fold. The problem is a thin film of toner on the upper delivery rollers, visible at the top where paper exits and behind the door at top rear. The lower rollers continue to push the paper, after it's skidding on the upper ones.
HP suggests new upper delivery rollers which could cost $175 plus labor - we suggest cleaning with a rubber rejuvenator which cost around $15.00. DO NOT use on any other rollers in printer or cartridge, such as foam roller under cartridge.
The rollers do become worn over time and may need to be replaced. Look for grooves and discoloring on the rollers.
