Troubleshooting for BJI-642 Cartridge

Canon BJ-300/330, IBM ExecJet Printers

Problem:Cause:
Uneven Print / Faded PrintTrapped Air in Cartridge
Solution:
Run cleaning cycle several times. If this does not alleviate the problem, run purge cycle several times. If the cleaning cycle and purge cycle do not correct the problem, remove cartridge from printer, compress the empty squeeze bottle, put nozzle of dispenser tube through hole in silicone plug. Slowly release bottle and withdraw dispenser tube until there is ink at the base of dispenser tube inside bottle.
Problem:Cause:
Faded Print / Ink Lines / No PrintSevere Air Blocked
Solution:
Perform the following:
  1. Remove platen cover.
  2. Turn on machine and begin to print a page.
  3. Turn off machine as printhead carriage travels to the right so printhead stops in platen area, where it is accessible.
  4. Moisten a cotton swab with water. Tip printhead back gently with finger.
  5. While holding printhead away from platen, gently apply cotton swab tip against printhead to activate printhead ink flow.
  6. Run cleaning cycle several times; then run Alpha Spiral self-test. If print results are successful and satisfactory, there is no need to proceed beyond this step. If print results are unsuccessful, go to step 7.
  7. Repeat steps 1 through 3.
  8. Slightly moisten a paper towel and fold into a small compress.
  9. Tilt carriage back and place compress between the printhead and the platen. Leave compress on machine overnight (6-12 hours - the longer the better).
  10. After time has elapsed, remove compress and sheet of paper. Run cleaning cycle several times.
  11. Run print test sheets to ensure problem no longer exists. Repeat if necessary.
